Sciaky to Unveil New Direct Manufacturing Technology at FABTECH 2009
Chicago, Illinois – Sciaky, Inc., a subsidiary of Phillips Service Industries (PSI) and world-renowned supplier of electron beam, advanced arc and resistance welding systems, will reveal how manufactures can save money and boost efficiency with Sciaky’s exclusive approach to Direct Manufacturing (DM) at the 2009 FABTECH International & AWS Welding Show, including METALFORM. The event, which is held at the McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois November 15-18, is the largest metal forming, fabricating and welding trade show in North America.
Sciaky’s DM process is the first fully programmable means of achieving near-net shape parts. It utilizes state-of-the art electron beam welding technology to produce functional prototypes, even manufactured parts, at a fraction of the cost of traditional manufacturing methods. All manufacturers have to do is simply upload their part from their CAD program to Sciaky’s programmable control system. From there, Sciaky’s electron beam gun takes over and deposits metal, layer by layer, until the part is complete. Depending on the part being manufactured, deposition rates can range from 15 to 40 pounds of metal per hour, or higher.
