Overview of EBAM® Systems

Sciaky’s turnkey metal additive manufacturing systems can do it all. Our Electron Beam Additive Manufacturing (EBAM®) systems bring value throughout the entire product life cycle.

EBAM® was launched in 2009 with the objective to save manufacturers significant time and money on the production of high-performance metallic structures. Today, EBAM is the world’s most cost-effective process for producing near-net shape parts made from virtually any metal, including high-value metals like titanium and tantalum.


The EBAM 110 Additive Manufacturing System:

These systems all combine computer-aided design (CAD), electron beam directed energy deposition, and layer-additive processing. Starting with a 3D model from a CAD program, Sciaky's electron beam (EB) gun deposits metal (via wire feedstock) in successive layers until the part reaches near-net shape. Each system’s vacuum chamber ensures the highest part integrity, while the EB gun maximizes material deposition rates by a range of 7 to 20 lbs. of metal per hour, which is the fastest and most efficient metal deposition process on the market. In addition, many EBAM systems offer dual wirefeed arrangements to increase deposition efficiency, as well as to simplify the process of switching to different deposition materials. Minor finish machining is required after the part reaches near-net shape.

Sciaky’s IRISS® (Interlayer Realtime Imaging & Sensing System) is a patented Closed-Loop Control (CLC) that automates the EBAM process. The CLC system monitors the metal deposition process in real time and makes adjustments to the process parameters that compensate for changes that occur over time.

As a result, you have a much more repeatable process that yields the following:
